Kirk Whalum’s music is soulful, passionate, and stirring, shaped by his Memphis gospel roots and Houston’s 1980s nightclub scene. Developing his signature tenor sound at Cody’s rooftop club, he was later discovered by Bob James, leading to five Columbia Records albums and a Grammy nomination. After moving to Los Angeles, Kirk became a sought-after session player for legends like Streisand, Vandross, Quincy Jones, and Whitney Houston—his sax is featured on “I Will Always Love You.” His Warner Bros. hit For You remains one of over 25 acclaimed solo projects, including the Gospel According to Jazz series. He also shined as part of BWB with Rick Braun and Norman Brown. 🎷🎶✨
